So Bauer’s staying put it seems for at least a few more days…but the Murphys had a great weekend regardless. We had a great playdate with Rob, Danielle and Elyse Cooper. Elyse has a really fun outdoor fountain swim toy and what is cuter than two little girls in swimsuits splashing around!

Sean and I had an excellent unexpected date night Saturday night complete with a trip to see a swingset posted on Craigslist (we aren’t going to buy it), buying a chair at IKEA, queso at La Hacinenda, desset at Cheesecake Factory and a 10:30 screening of The Dark Knight (which I didn’t fall asleep in and only had to pee once during). It was fabulous. Thanks Aunt Becca for letting Bree hang out all night and morning
Sunday was spent in lazy mode waiting for Bauer! When are you coming buddy??? We are so excited to meet you!
Thanks for all the words of support and encouragement about his impending arrival! He will be here in the next two weeks…really 12 days! The blog will be updated as soon as possible after the birth!
So as you can tell from the last post, this final lap of pregnancy for me has not been the cake walk I remember with Bree. There have been lots of hormones, tears, and overall feelings of just plain ickiness for the last week off and on! Sean has been a trooper and my rock and my mom as always has been a rock as well!Â
Last night, there were lots of tears..they just wouldn’t stop. Not sure if I was crying because Bauer’s not here, because I’m not sure what I will do with him when he gets here, because my stomach hurts all the time, because I was overtired because I pee 80 times a night, or because I’ve decided Bree likes Daddy more some days than Mommy. Regardless of all these things the tears kept streaming until I went to sleep at like 9pm :) That was a happy part of the day.Â
Today I woke up feeling a bit the same and wondering how we can only be at mid-July (I know most of you feel that summer is flying by…not so much for me).Â
Sean headed off to work and Bree went down for an early nap (God’s gift to me) and then my phone rang. It was Mom having the perfect timing as always. She just wanted to check in and see how I was doing. About this time, Beaker started barking nonstop downstairs probably because a tree branch outside moved or something equally uneventful. I started yelling at the dog because remember God’s gift to me…Bree was sleeping…and Beaker was trying to ruin my 30 extra minutes of peace. I told my mom I was taking Beaker to the pound. I guess this insane comment showed my complete and utter impatience and exasperation for life at the moment. She offered to come out to Arlington and see Bree and I!Â
It was the perfect medicine for my 9 and some months pregnant self. I just needed my Mom! Sometimes that is the only thing that can make a person feel better and I feel so lucky to have my mom close enough to be able to get a hug from her when I need it the most. She listened to me complain.  We washed and organized Bauer’s clothes. We read Bree books and watched her antics in Breeland. She took us to lunch and to get some final things at Babies R Us. It was just the best day! I even got a mini nap thanks to Gram holding down the fort!
I just feel so blessed to have had a mom all my life who knows how to take care of me when I don’t even know how to take care of me. Sure I’ll be 30 in a few months, but I know I will always need my mom and I am so thankful for her not only being my mom but a best friend as well!  I only hope that I can be that kind of mom for Bree and Bauer. I really have no excuse, the best example of what a mom can and should be has been holding my hand my whole life!
I love you Mom and can’t wait to bring another grandchild into your life!Â
Â
Yes, that’s how long I’ve been pregnant. For those who weren’t educated by me during Bree’s pregancy…the whole process is really 10 months (40 weeks), not 9 months like all media and general knowledge leads you to believe. So here we are about 13 days from the due date and this weekend has taught both Sean and I that regardless of being late with Bree, Bauer may have other plans. It started on Friday night/Saturday morning…I had contractions from about 2am to 8am. We ended up talking to the on call doctor because as silly as it is we never had to worry about the contraction part with Bree…my water just broke, and after that happens you just go to the hospital. Contractions are a whole different ballgame. They have to be a certain time period apart and last a certain amount of time before you know you are ready to go to the hospital. Let’s just say there is no baby and we haven’t been to the hospital. I’ve been having contractions off and on for the last two days and can only come up with the term “false labor” to explain it all!  We’ve tried to make the best of it!  Sean even canceled his trip to see his dad this weekend because contractions could mean anything!
We tried to treat Bree to some fun when the contractions finally would stop because in all reality, these next two weekends may be her last weekends as an only child. We think she is beginning to sense some changes. We hope so with a newly decorated room next door and her new crib and mommy’s big belly, but 18 month olds are so live in the moment, that she hasn’t shown too many signs of understanding that a brother is on the way!
We played outside and she sharpened her hockey skills with Sean.

Bree has her own stick…but as you can see she likes Sean’s tall stick better!

My little gap supermodel!

Could my two favorites get any cuter!
We took her to the mall and played in the playland and went on the carousel.

Climbing up the slide is the best way to play!

I am the happiest girl in the world!

A bumpy yet fun slide!

Animals are everywhere!

Lions say “ROAR” according to Bree!

The white horse went up and down while the lion stayed in one place!

Mommy’s stay put bench is not exciting enough for Bree.
And today when we realized that a trip to the hospital was probably not in the cards, we lost our minds completely and decided what would be more fun than combining pregnancy, an 18 month old and 100 degree heat with the Fort Worth Zoo. We thought it was time that Bree got to see all the animals we have been learning about in person at the zoo. She did amazing and probably would have made it longer than our 2 hour goal if mommy did not have to pull the plug because she couldn’t walk anymore! It was a great first trip to the zoo!

Chimps are so fun!

Gotta stay hydrated…its July in Texas!

More monkeys!

Gosh they let little kids get close to bengal tigers!

We love birds!

There’s a turtle in that pic somewhere!

I love that Bree has the exact expression as the animals in this pic!

Sometimes chasing squirrels makes the whole zoo trip worthwhile!

Flamingos are Mom’s favorite!

The exhausted Bree in powernap land!
We have yet to pack the bag for the hospital because I refuse to get any more excited that this may happen sooner rather than later. I really don’t mind waiting 13 more days (or 20 if I go a week late), but this false labor or whatever it is has to stop. We will see if Bauer will cooperate!
We’ve been starting to freak out about having two kids a little bit…not so much the infant and toddler but the fact that there will be two walking children at some point!  We started asking people we see at playgrounds and church about ”how they do it”. The answer seems to be that you just do. We met this woman at the playground Friday night whose husband is in the military. She is back from Korea (yes she flew on a plane by herself with a infant and 3 year old from Korea to DFW) for a couple months before they meet up with her husband in England for their next deployment.  WOW is all I have to say!  On Saturday night we sat in the “Angel” Room (the cry room) at church with a mom who had 4 kids under 5 and had the calmest tone with them regardless of how insane they got. Again, I was in awe. I think God was trying to tell me, we will be fine and you just have to take it as it comes (and maybe pray a lot)!
Okay, that’s all for now!  Updates on contractions and my sanity will come as often as possible!
Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend…how great is it for the 4th to be on a Friday! We should try to fanagle that every year!!
The Murphys headed to the lake for the weekend and enjoyed what we call “Bree’s first active 4th of July”. Last year at this time she was just tasting baby food for the first time, but this year she was ready to enjoy the festivities and even had a few of her own tricks up her sleeve!

Our attempt for a family portrait in front of a random house that had a huge flag!
We decided to take the boat over to the clubhouse for the annual Kiowa golf cart parade and festival…here’s everyone (Cousin Audrey, Allison, and Andrew with Aunt Jennifer)ready for a great ride:

Once we got to the festival, Andrew just had to give Bree a big hug thankful to be on land again!

We watched the many golf carts and the cousins caught lots of candy! Bree as you can see below was much more interested in the dog sitting near us!

We played on the swing set after the parade to keep the kids entertained before the games opened up! Gosh, someone is looking especially pregnant!

Bree tried her hand at some fishing and then just some good ole fashioned duck hunting! It was so hot she thought she would try to join the ducks…not a bad idea!

After some successful festival games, Bree had a meltdown…who in the picture below is ready for a nap???!!!

So the boat went back to the house with the two babies and long naps were had by both! Bree then had a little moment of independence herself. When Sean went to go get her from her nap, he noticed that her diaper was no longer on her body but on the floor!!! Now that’s what I call Independence Day!

The events of the day continued with swimming - Bree continues to love the water…HAPPY TIMES for mom and dad!

She’s just our little grownup, she even jumps to us from the edge!!! I promise I’m not just a bragging mom, I have a video to prove it

The rest of the weekend was spent with more swimming, more relaxing and just overall feelings of being so blessed to enjoy the freedom we have!
Hope everyone took to heart the meaning of this holiday and had a wonderful time celebrating!
All the fun Julie and I have been having with Bree at the lakehouse lake and pool seems to have finally gotten Bree to see the water as her friend! Finally! She has been an extremely hard sell on bathtime and dependent swim time (in a float, in someone’s arms, etc.). Today was a different story.
I get the amazing pleasure of watching Bree on Mondays and Wednesdays during the day, which is normally a routine of play, lunch, she naps & I work, more playing and MOM! But today Bree and I went on an adventure to Unlce Stu’s house to have lunch with him, Uncle Steve and, of course, Stu’s pool. Bree has an incredibly strong tendincy to be independent, and the pool is no different. But Stu’s pool has a fairly large 6 inch deep ledge that allowed her to find her way on her own terms.

After feeling in control and now in explorer mode, she had to go further. Down one step and then another where the water was right at her mouth. It was all fun and all at her own pace. She even tried sticking her head under water! (Yikes!) Then Bree wanted to go outward and swim like daddy and her uncles. She experimented with laying on her back but mostly she wanted to be on her stomach. Bree began swinging her arms through the water and kicking her legs. The girl had her first official swim lesson! It was amazing.

Bree loved the pool so much, she even allowed herself to have a blast while in the arms of her uncles! A great day for everyone!

Uncle Stu

Uncle Steve and… pool golf?
Uncle Stu is never without a new and exciting game to play.

Dad trying his shallow wedge. Bree, enjoyed fetching the velcroed golf balls.

Where did Uncle Stu go? (I see him, can you)

There’s Uncle Stu!
The best part is, everyong had so much fun, we’re planning it again next week! Weekly swim lessons anyone?

Having a child is still such a new phenomenom to Sean and I! Weekends like this past one reminds us how much having a child really does change everything!!!
We had decided on Friday that Bree was due some Chuckie Cheese time over the weekend so Saturday afternoon after her nap we headed to the Arlington Chuckie Cheese. After some rides with Barney, driving a car with a mouse and Daddy, galloping on a horse, eating a piece of pizza all by herself not cut into little bites, going high up in the air on a ride that was probably not meant for a 16 month old and watching Daddy hide behind a school bus, we felt we had had a successful trip. Its amazing what fun an hour and a half can hold!

So we went from kiddie world Saturday afternoon to getting dressed up Saturday night for one of my best friend’s weddings. We dropped Bree at Uncle Michael and Aunt Erin’s and headed downtown for a night to remember with all our friends. It was a great wedding and it was so nice to not have to chase after a toddler or worry about what could be broken next. Sean decided to really celebrate with a few too many drinks. I mean open bar can only mean one thing right. So while it was a fun night with our friends, it wasn’t quite the date night I had envisioned. This not drinking thing makes my sense of humor a bit on the tempermental side. I ended up having to babysit Sean a bit, but we’ve been down this road before and overall it was still a great night.

Love my horned frog friends!

Could Sarah look more beautiful???!!!

My favorite party animal!
We ended up staying out way too late and once we got Bree and headed to Arlington, it was way past this mama’s bedtime. Sean passed out and I crashed hard as well. Unfortunately, early Sunday morning we were brought back to the reality of how kids change things forever…she was awake and did not care what we had done last night. It was time for playing and milk! Sean thought he could get up and deal with it, but that was before he actually opened his eyes, so I took the first shift. I thought I had willed her back into a morning nap around 10:30, but to no avail. Sean took the next shift and she finally went down for a nap around 11:30. We both continued to lay in bed sleeping in until she woke up around 1:30! Then feeling like complete loser parents we tried to plan a fun afternoon. We took Bree and the dogs to the park by our old house in Bedford and had a picnic lunch and took Bree for her first snowcone! Overall, I’d say she forgot all about those tough morning hours pretty quickly as did we!

Picnic Time!

Pebbles may be our new obsession!

Oh the joy of Snow Cones when its 100 degrees outside!

So I keep hearing that today is the first day of summer and ironically Bree and I are nowhere near a pool or lake today of all days! Its hot, hot, hot and has been hot, hot, hot! But I’m all about celebrating the start of a new season regardless.Â
While out running errands (well one errand proved to be too much for Bree), I saw the marque for Sonic and it said - June 20, the happiest day of summer! So I thought let’s go get some icecream for Bree and a big diet coke for Mommy! So we did and once we got home, Bree wanted nothing to do with the icecream and only wanted the ice from the diet coke.  I mean honestly, I knew that Bree couldn’t eat all the icecream regardless and I would end up helping, but I thought she’d at least take a few bites off the top! Nothing, I was forced to devour the whole blessed Sonic Blast! Oh heaven on a hot summer day. And the joy of being pregnant is that there is no guilt…I enjoyed every bite! Bree singlehandedly devoured all the ice out of the large diet coke; eating dirt, sytrofoam, and a straw in the process!Â
Here’s to making lots more summer memories in the next couple months!!

Bree: "Born January 29, 2007. I love to jump, dance, sing, play the harmonica, swing, look at airplanes, slide and memorize everything I hear and see, especially in my books. My favorite foods are fish sticks, bagel bites and chicken nuggets."
Bauer: "Born July 29th, 2008. "Yes, I'm exactly 18 months younger than my sister and will truly enjoy the half birthday gifts this brings Bree and I through the years. I'm so much fun and I love to pull hair. Bree doesn't know what's coming her way."
